Swank Educational Academy (SEA) in Westlake Hills

School for Children with Speech/Language and Auditory Delays

SEA Half-Day, Four Days per Week

The SEA schedule is 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. It is therapeutic, neurological education that is individualized and intensive. Because of individualized assessment, the intervention is more efficient and effective. The schedule provides time for outside therapies as well as allows for outside recreational, art, music, sports, or other activities. The Lead Therapist is a Ph.D. Speech-Language Pathologist with specialization in Child Language Development and Disorders.

Objective of SEA

  • For students to acquire communication skills in all four language modalities of
    (1) Listening, (2) Speaking, (3) Reading and (4) Writing.
  • To identify individual learning styles so students thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.
  • To transition SEA students to schools that match their unique learning style and developmental needs.

Admission Criteria for SEA

  • Average to above average intelligence
  • Present with speech/language or auditory processing deficits

Benefits of SEA

Children with language or auditory processing deficits, and those with unique learning styles do not typically thrive in traditional school settings. Our program provides small classes with individualized therapeutic instruction. The student-teacher ratio is 1-3. We also provide end of the year standardized testing (ITBS) to identify traditional grade placement.

The Difference of SEA:

  • Focus on child neurological-language-learning development and disorders as they relate to the acquisition of academic, social and emotional skills.
  • It is individual, neurological therapeutic rather than curriculum driven.
  • Children are taught to their unique learning styles and developmental level.
